Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, is set to launch virtual internships for its engineering students starting in the academic session of 2026-2027. This initiative integrates online internships into the university's academic credit system, allowing students to earn one academic credit for every 30 hours of virtual internship completed. The program is designed to enhance practical exposure and align with the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes skill-based learning. Students will be able to undertake internships from anywhere, saving time and resources. AKTU has established partnerships with companies such as IBM, Infosys, and NIELIT to offer both paid and unpaid internships. Eligible students in their third, fifth, and seventh semesters must complete a minimum of 60 hours of internship, translating into two academic credits. The evaluation will be conducted in collaboration with industry partners.
