Former Indian opener Sadagoppan Ramesh has claimed that the success of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming is heavily reliant on his partnership with MS Dhoni. Since Fleming's appointment in 2009, CSK has secured five IPL titles, all achieved under Dhoni's captaincy. However, the franchise has faced challenges since Ruturaj Gaikwad took over as captain in 2024, losing their first three matches of IPL 2026. Ramesh criticized Fleming's coaching approach, stating he appears to be 'five steps behind' the evolving game and lacks the adaptability needed for modern cricket. He also pointed out Gaikwad's disappointing performance, with only 41 runs in three matches, suggesting that improving his batting could enhance his confidence and leadership. CSK's next match is against Delhi Capitals this Saturday.
