The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India has officially announced the introduction of a curriculum on Computational Thinking (CT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for students in Classes 3 to 8, set to begin in the 2026-27 academic year. This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) 2023, aiming to integrate modern technological concepts into the school education system. The curriculum will focus on enhancing students' logical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and ethical use of AI.
To ensure effective implementation, CBSE has developed a comprehensive teacher training module covering various aspects of CT and AI, including pedagogy and assessment. Workshops will be organized at the district level to share best practices and build teacher capacity, with participation counting towards Continuous Professional Development (CPD) hours. Additionally, expert-led sessions and digital learning resources will supplement teacher training. CBSE encourages schools to actively participate in this initiative by nominating teachers for the training workshops, fostering a nurturing environment for the integration of computational thinking and AI into everyday learning.
