Sanjay Khanna has been appointed as the chairman and managing director of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), effective April 9, 2026, until May 31, 2029. He previously held the position of Director (Refineries) and has been acting as CMD since G Krishnakumar's retirement on April 30, 2025. Khanna is a graduate in chemical engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, and has a postgraduate degree in finance management from the University of Mumbai. He has held various leadership roles within BPCL, including overseeing the Kochi and Mumbai refineries. Under his leadership, BPCL plans to invest ₹75,000 crore (approximately $9 billion USD) over the next five years, including the ₹50,000 crore (approximately $6 billion USD) Bina Petrochemical and Refinery Expansion Project in Madhya Pradesh. Khanna is also a director on several boards, including Bharat PetroResources Ltd and Petronet LNG Ltd.
