The Africa Cricket Association (ACA) is in discussions to establish a continental T20 Cup, inspired by the Asia Cup, to foster cricket development and generate revenue across Africa. The ACA, restructured last year with Zimbabwe Cricket's Tavengwa Mukuhlani as chair, is currently evaluating viable proposals but anticipates that the tournament will not commence before 2027. Key discussions include identifying a suitable scheduling window and qualification structure, heavily influenced by South Africa's commitments. Cricket South Africa (CSA) is supportive of the T20 Cup but needs to adjust its schedule to ensure it can field a competitive team. Meanwhile, CSA is negotiating a tri-series with Zimbabwe and potentially Namibia to inaugurate the Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium in Victoria Falls, which could serve as a precursor to the continental T20 Cup. South Africa is set to co-host the 2027 ODI World Cup with Zimbabwe and Namibia, with South Africa and Zimbabwe already qualified, while Namibia must navigate the qualification process.
