The Canadian government has announced a target to recognize credentials for 32,000 internationally trained professionals (ITPs) under its Foreign Credential Recognition (FCR) Program by 2026-27. The initiative will establish 58 agreements primarily focusing on the healthcare and construction sectors. Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) highlighted that these agreements will provide federal funding to partner organizations, which include provinces, regulatory bodies, and professional associations. These organizations will facilitate faster credential recognition, offer FCR loans between $15,000 and $30,000, and provide employment assistance linked to Canadian work experience. Additionally, the government is launching the Foreign Credential Recognition Action Fund, committing $97 million CAD over five years starting in 2026-27 to improve the fairness and efficiency of the credential recognition process. This initiative aims to address barriers preventing internationally trained professionals from entering regulated occupations, demonstrating Canada's commitment to integrating skilled newcomers into its workforce.
