Mock drills were executed at eight locations in the Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham areas of Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand, as part of the Char Dham Yatra Mock Exercise 2026. The drills involved five locations in Gangotri Dham—Bhatwari, Papad Gad, Kedar Tal, Dharali, and Telgaad—and three in Yamunotri Dham—the Yamunotri pedestrian route, Paligad, and Kapad Gad. These exercises aimed to enhance disaster management preparedness by simulating relief and rescue operations in response to potential emergencies. Uttarakhand's Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Minister Madan Kaushik oversaw the drills, which were conducted in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority and the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority. Kaushik emphasized the importance of practical planning and coordination among all departments to ensure the safety of pilgrims. Following a review meeting, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that there would be no cap on the number of pilgrims for the upcoming yatra, assuring that all necessary arrangements, including medical support and emergency services, are in place to facilitate a safe pilgrimage.
