The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a significant educational reform aimed at enhancing students' skills in computational thinking (CT) and artificial intelligence (AI) for the 2026-27 academic year. This initiative, which applies to students in Classes 3 to 8, is designed to align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023. The new curriculum emphasizes the development of logical thinking, systematic problem-solving, pattern recognition, and an understanding of the ethical implications of AI. Schools will engage in various activities, including district-level deliberations (DLDs), expert-led talks, and regional workshops organized by CBSE's Centres of Excellence. DLDs will allow up to 16 schools to present case studies on best practices, with the top presentations recognized at the National Teachers Conference. The curriculum also includes seven sub-themes focusing on CT and AI readiness, advanced pedagogical strategies, and real-world applications of AI, among others. The implementation of these initiatives is expected to commence in April 2026.
