In Vyasarpadi, Chennai, the corporation playground on MKB Nagar East Avenue has become a dumping ground for construction and demolition waste, severely limiting its use for community sports. The playground's decline began when the P3 Vyasarpadi police station was moved to a makeshift facility within the playground after its original building collapsed in 2022. Since then, the area has been neglected, with abandoned vehicles and police vans occupying much of the space. Residents report that before the relocation, the playground was a hub for local football matches and community activities, with over 100 people using it daily. Now, the space is so limited that even small games are challenging to organize. Local advocate V Prabhu emphasized the need for immediate action from the corporation and metrowater, highlighting the presence of a dilapidated water tank nearby. District-level football player S Prabhakar noted that players now have to resort to expensive private turfs, which charge between ₹800 to ₹1,200 per hour. Despite ongoing complaints, authorities have yet to take action, although police officials stated that a budget has been sanctioned for a new police station on Basin Bridge land, which is currently stalled due to inter-departmental approvals.
