A high-level delegation from Commonwealth Sport visited Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on April 8, 2023, as part of the preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. This visit marks the delegation's first engagement since Ahmedabad was officially confirmed as the host city for the centenary event. During the visit, the delegation met with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, who stated that Gujarat is committed to completing the Games with a focus on teamwork and effective planning, as emphasized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The delegation also inspected proposed venues for the Games. The 2030 Commonwealth Games will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the inaugural Games held in Hamilton, Canada, in 1930. The success of this event is anticipated to enhance India's prospects for hosting the 2036 Olympics. Dr. Donald Rukare, President of Commonwealth Sport, invited Chief Minister Patel to the upcoming Commonwealth Games scheduled for July 23, 2026, in Glasgow.
