C. Joseph Vijay, the president of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has positioned his party as a viable alternative to the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposition INDIA bloc in the upcoming Puducherry Assembly elections scheduled for April 9, 2026. Speaking at a gathering in Kokkupark, Puducherry, he criticized both the NDA, which comprises the AINRC and BJP, and the INDIA bloc, highlighting their failures to address the welfare of the people. Vijay noted that the constituents of the INDIA bloc are currently in conflict with each other, and he emphasized that the TVK would contest the elections independently, dismissing rumors of potential alliances. He pledged to advocate for statehood for Puducherry, asserting that an elected government would function better without interference from the Lieutenant Governor. Furthermore, he promised that local body elections would be conducted within six months if his party secures a majority. The TVK has received permission for various campaign activities, although police had to manage large crowds during Vijay's campaign appearances.
