Starting in May, the Athletics Federation of India will enforce mandatory SRY Gene Testing for all female athletes. This testing will first take place during the National Senior Athletics Federation Competitions in Ranchi, which also serves as a final qualification trial for the Commonwealth Games and the Asia U-23 Athletics Championships. Following this, tests will be conducted at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneshwar and the Youth and Open Nationals in Ludhiana and New Delhi, respectively. The SRY Gene Test is designed to verify the biological sex of female athletes by detecting the presence of male chromosomes, addressing fairness in competition. This initiative aligns with World Athletics rules, which mandated such testing from September last year, and a recent policy from the International Olympic Committee aimed at protecting the integrity of women's categories in sports, particularly ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. If an athlete tests positive for male chromosomes, re-tests will be conducted to assess any competitive advantage related to Differences in Sex Development (DSD).
