The redevelopment of New Delhi Railway Station is gaining momentum, as Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted in a recent update. The project, under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, aims to modernize the station and create a multi-modal transport hub. The new design will increase the station's capacity to 700,000 passengers daily, up from the current 400,000-500,000. Key features include the installation of over 1,500 artificial intelligence (AI) cameras for security, an elevated road network, and two large station buildings on the Paharganj and Ajmeri Gate sides. The total built-up area will be approximately 110,000 square meters. The project also includes commercial spaces and seamless integration with city transport, including the Metro. After previous failed attempts, the cabinet approved the project in 2022, with the contract awarded in February 2025.
