In the film 'Dhurandhar', Akshaye Khanna's portrayal of Rehmaan Dakait has garnered significant attention, but he was not the initial choice for the role. Casting director Mukesh Chhabra revealed that two to three actors from Bollywood and one from the South declined the role, citing unusual reasons, including concerns that the ensemble nature of the film centered around Ranveer Singh. Mukesh expressed that these actors may now regret their decision. He described his reaction to the script by Aditya Dhar as intense, recalling a four-hour narration that left him stunned. The film required casting for nearly 400 roles, with a dedicated team working for nearly two years. Ranveer Singh was confirmed as the lead character Hamza from the start, having been eager for a strong script. The casting team conducted over 1,000 auditions for the character of Yalina Jamali, played by newcomer Sara Arjun. The sequel, 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge', released on March 19, has reportedly grossed over ₹1500 crore (approximately $180 million USD) globally, indicating its box office success.
