The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has mandated that 17 firms, including Purbanchal Enterprise, cease their anti-competitive practices related to tenders issued by the Assam Police Housing Corporation Ltd for electrification works. These firms were found to have engaged in bid rigging for internal and external electrification projects under the Assam government's Mission of Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image Scheme. The CCI's findings were based on a complaint from the Office of the Accountant General (Audit), Assam, filed on August 10, 2020, which alleged irregularities in the tendering process. The investigation revealed that the firms manipulated the tender process through bid rotation and cover bidding, evidenced by identical mistakes in bid submissions, shared IP addresses, and demand drafts with consecutive numbers. Consequently, the CCI has held these entities accountable under the provisions of competition law, specifically Section 3(3)(d) and Section 48 of the Act.
