Kangane, who has a substantial following of 1.7 million users, believes the action is an attempt to suppress his criticism of the BJP-led Mahayuti government. He recently posted content addressing Ashok Kharat, a self-styled godman facing multiple criminal charges, questioning how Kharat managed to operate without scrutiny for nearly a decade. Kangane stated that instead of restricting his entire account, Meta could have simply removed the specific post in question. Meta has indicated that the restriction was implemented following a valid government blocking order under Section 79 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which mandates intermediaries to comply with government directives. Kangane plans to argue in court that his posts are not offensive but rather highlight governmental failures, referencing the landmark 2015 Shreya Singhal vs Union of India ruling that deemed certain online censorship laws unconstitutional. He aims to challenge the implications of silencing voices that criticize government actions.
