The Election Commission of India has announced that the Assam Legislative Assembly elections will take place on April 9, 2026, in a single phase across 126 constituencies. With 722 candidates contesting, the electorate comprises 25,054,463 voters, including 1,25,31,552 male and 1,25,22,593 female voters. To ensure a fair and peaceful election, the EC has implemented extensive preparatory measures, including the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces and the use of webcasting at all 31,490 polling stations for real-time monitoring. Additionally, facilities such as drinking water, waiting areas, and provisions for persons with disabilities will be available at polling stations. Special voting provisions allow senior citizens over 85 years and identified persons with disabilities to vote from home via postal ballots, with 26,032 senior citizens and 8,373 persons with disabilities already utilizing this option. Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel has urged all stakeholders to cooperate in facilitating voter participation.
