Polling for Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry, along with by-elections in Karnataka, Nagaland, and Tripura, concluded on April 9, 2026. Assam recorded a remarkable voter turnout of 85.38%, while Puducherry achieved 89.83%, both representing their highest participation in Assembly election history. Kerala's turnout was 78.03%. In the by-elections, Karnataka's Bagalkot and Davanagere South constituencies saw turnouts of 68.70% and 68.55%, respectively. Nagaland's Koridang recorded 82.21%, and Tripura's Dharmanagar reached 80.04%. The Election Commission of India, led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, monitored the polls closely. For the first time, all polling stations were covered by live webcasting. A total of 296 Assembly constituencies were involved, with an electorate of over 5.31 crore voters and more than 2.5 lakh polling personnel deployed across 63,084 polling stations. The Commission introduced several voter-friendly initiatives, including color photographs of candidates on electronic voting machine (EVM) ballot papers and a cap of 1,200 voters per polling station.
