The Boston Bruins have officially signed James Hagens, a 19-year-old forward and the reigning MVP of the Beanpot tournament, to a three-year contract with an annual salary cap hit of $975,000. Hagens, who was selected seventh overall in the previous year's draft, had an impressive sophomore season at Boston College, leading Hockey East with 23 goals and 47 points, which included six game-winning goals and two hat tricks. His performance in the Beanpot, where he scored two goals and provided three assists, helped Boston College secure the title for the first time in a decade. Hagens also joined the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League (AHL) in March, tallying one goal and three assists in six games. Additionally, he won a gold medal at the 2025 World Junior Championships and was named MVP of the under-18 world championships in 2024, setting a record with 22 points in a single tournament. Hagens is expected to join the Bruins immediately and may debut against the Atlantic Division-leading Tampa Bay Lightning as Boston leads the Eastern Conference wild-card race with 96 points and is close to clinching a playoff spot.
