Sunetra Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, has reached out to Uddhav Thackeray, the leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT), seeking his support ahead of her nomination for the Baramati bypoll scheduled for April 6. This bypoll was necessitated by the tragic death of her husband, Ajit Pawar, who previously held the seat for eight consecutive terms. Speculation is rife that the Congress party may field a candidate against her, prompting Sunetra to solidify alliances within the political landscape. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has ramped up its campaign efforts in Baramati, traditionally viewed as the Pawar family's stronghold, with significant meetings already conducted. Sunetra's son, Jay Pawar, is expected to take a more active role in the election process. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Congress president Harshawardhan Sapkal has indicated that if the NCP does not field a candidate, Congress will proceed with its own candidate selection. Sanjay Raut from Shiv Sena (UBT) noted the importance of democratic principles in determining candidates for the elections, emphasizing that the party with the strongest local presence should contest.
