Lufthansa, the flagship airline of Germany, faced widespread disruption as a strike by cabin crew led to the cancellation of approximately 90% of flights at its airlines, including Lufthansa and its CityLine subsidiary. The UFO union, representing the crew, reported an enormous participation in the strike, which aimed to address issues such as overwork and redundancy notice periods. Major airports across Germany, including Frankfurt and Munich, saw significant cancellations, with 580 and 400 flights grounded respectively. The strike coincided with the end of the Easter holiday period, further impacting travelers. Additionally, the Vereinigung Cockpit pilots' union announced a two-day strike beginning Monday, focusing on salary and pension disputes. This strike is the fourth industrial action affecting Lufthansa this year, following previous strikes that resulted in the cancellation of nearly 800 flights in February and significant disruptions in March. Lufthansa has called for renewed negotiations, emphasizing that dialogue is essential for finding lasting solutions.
