In a creative home improvement project, the author transformed a kitchen pantry cabinet into a hidden home lab, significantly decluttering their office space. The project began with the need to consolidate networking equipment, including a Wi-Fi router, switches, and smart home hubs. By opting for a cabinet with doors, the author ensured that most equipment remained out of sight while still being easily accessible. They drilled holes for cable management using desk grommets, which allowed for a cleaner look and better airflow. The top shelf housed a mesh router, while the lower section was dedicated to a multi-device charging station and a mini PC for managing network tasks. This setup not only improved organization but also enhanced Wi-Fi signal strength, as the router was elevated.
