Thousands of garment workers in Noida's Phase 2 Hosiery Complex have been protesting for higher wages, entering their fourth day as of April 13. The unrest was triggered by a 35% wage increase in neighboring Haryana, where daily wages now range from approximately ₹580 to ₹750 ($7 to $9 USD). In contrast, unskilled workers in Noida earn between ₹350 to ₹435 ($4.20 to $5.20 USD) daily, prompting demands for a minimum monthly salary of ₹18,000 to ₹20,000 ($220 to $240 USD). Protesters are also calling for better working conditions, including double pay for overtime, mandatory weekly offs, medical coverage, and timely bonuses. The protests escalated into violence, with incidents of vandalism and arson reported, leading to increased police presence and security measures in Noida and along key entry points to Delhi. The local administration has initiated discussions with factory owners to address these concerns, but no final agreement has been reached yet.
