Employees of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) have announced a statewide strike starting April 22, following a lack of response from the Telangana government and RTC management to their demands. The Joint Action Committee (JAC) has presented 32 demands, including the merger of TGSRTC with the state government, labor union elections, and salary parity with government employees. This strike is expected to severely disrupt transport services, with officials estimating that over 6,000 buses will be off the roads, impacting more than 60 lakh commuters. State transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar has appealed for dialogue, noting that the government is examining the merger proposal and has released pending Dearness Allowance (DA) dues. However, employees insist that previous commitments regarding job security and wage revisions must be honored. The JAC had previously deferred a strike in May last year after receiving government assurances, but dissatisfaction over the lack of progress has led to the current strike plan. If unresolved, the strike is likely to cause major disruptions in public transport across Telangana.
