The Dussehri mango production in Lucknow's Malihabad, Kakori, and Mal regions is facing significant challenges due to temperature fluctuations during the critical flowering phase. Experts from the ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH) report that while some orchards are yielding well, the overall assessment is mixed, raising concerns about both the quantity and quality of the crop. PK Shukla, a crop protection specialist, noted that while recent rainfall hasn't directly harmed the flowers, inconsistent weather has hindered fruit setting in many orchards. Additionally, a decline in pollinator populations, particularly bees, has further complicated natural fertilization processes. Excessive pesticide use is also detrimental to pollinators and fruit quality. Despite these challenges, experts remain cautiously optimistic, as better production from eastern Uttar Pradesh districts like Kushinagar and Gorakhpur may help balance the overall mango output in the state. Uttar Pradesh is the largest producer of Dussehri mangoes, contributing significantly to India's total mango production.
