The incident came to light when a man approached the hospital for the certificate, and an ambulance driver named Mahendra Hindurao demanded ₹3,000 on behalf of Dr. Patil, later negotiating it down to ₹2,000. Unwilling to comply, the complainant reported the matter to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), which set up a trap at the hospital and caught Dr. Patil in the act. The ambulance driver is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to locate him. The ACB is also investigating whether other applicants faced similar demands for bribes. Dr. Patil has been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
