The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released a disturbing video from an incident in Malda district, West Bengal, where judicial officers were held hostage during protests over mass deletions from electoral rolls. In the footage, a female officer pleads for her safety, highlighting the tense atmosphere. BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari described the situation as 'chilling' and indicative of a climate of fear under the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). The protests erupted on April 1, leading to road blockades and significant disruption across multiple Assembly constituencies. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused the TMC of orchestrating the violence as a 'pre-planned experiment,' citing connections between the main accused, Mofakkarul Islam, and TMC leaders, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Following the incident, the Additional Director General of North Bengal, K. Jayaraman, confirmed the arrest of Islam and stated that CAPF would now protect judicial officers in the region. So far, 35 arrests have been made as authorities investigate the incident further.
