The newly notified Income Tax Return (ITR) forms for Assessment Year 2026-27 introduce several important updates for taxpayers in India. One of the most notable changes is the addition of a secondary address field, requiring taxpayers to provide both primary and secondary addresses along with their contact details. Previously, only a single address was required. The forms also now differentiate between primary and secondary contact details for mobile numbers and email IDs. Furthermore, there is a simplification in reporting requirements for representative assessees, who now only need to provide their name, email ID, and contact number. Another significant change is the removal of the bifurcated reporting for capital gains, streamlining the process by eliminating the need to report gains based on the transfer date. These changes are applicable for all ITR forms (1 to 7) and must be adhered to by the filing deadline of July 31, 2026.
