The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) is set to introduce two new master's programs: a Master of Design (MDes) and a Master of Technology (MTech) in Maritime Engineering, beginning in the 2026-27 academic year. Prof. Bhaskar Datta, Dean of Academic Affairs, emphasized that the MDes program will merge design thinking with engineering, technology, and social sciences, enhancing students' ability to tackle real-world challenges. The MTech program will focus on maritime education, covering critical areas such as port and ocean infrastructure, logistics, and regulatory frameworks, particularly relevant in Gujarat, which has a robust port activity. Prof. Rajat Moona, Director of IIT Gandhinagar, noted that these programs reflect a shift towards integrating creativity with technical knowledge, aligning with India's strategic priorities in port-led development. Additionally, IITGN offers dual-degree programs with esteemed institutions, enhancing educational opportunities for students.
