Naheed Nenshi, leader of the Alberta New Democratic Party, is demanding the dismissal of Justice Minister Mickey Amery due to his connection to Sam Mraiche, who is currently under investigation for a health procurement scandal involving alleged improper contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars from the Alberta government. The investigation follows the RCMP's visit to the offices of MHCare Medical Corp., the company led by Mraiche. Nenshi highlighted Amery's familial ties to Mraiche, stating, “The conflict of interest is apparent.” An independent report revealed that Mraiche has an outstanding balance of over $49 million with taxpayers related to a partially fulfilled agreement for children's pain medication. Nenshi criticized the situation, noting that it is unusual for a justice minister to be related to a central figure in a scandal while also defending him and changing laws to protect him. The law in question, Bill 14, was introduced late last year and provides immunity to the justice minister from law society sanctions.
