The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has approached the Karnataka High Court to challenge the closure of a corruption case against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, his wife BM Parvathi, and two others, linked to the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land allotment scandal. The ED's petition, filed on Monday, opposes a trial court's decision that accepted a closure report from the Lokayukta Police, which cleared the accused while allowing further investigation into MUDA officials. The ED argues that the special court's order is inconsistent and legally untenable, asserting that if the allotments were illegal, the beneficiaries should not be absolved while only the officials remain under scrutiny. The agency claims that the accused are principal beneficiaries of alleged proceeds of crime, including the illegal allotment of 14 sites valued at approximately ₹56 crore (roughly $6.8 million USD). The ED has presented evidence, including satellite imagery and WhatsApp communications, suggesting undue influence over MUDA officials. The case also involves a separate petition from RTI activist Snehamayi Krishna, who has called for an independent investigation. The Karnataka High Court has not yet scheduled a hearing for the ED's petition.
