The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is calling on children across Canada to help name their new foals born at the RCMP Breeding Farm in Pakenham, Ontario, located west of Ottawa. This year's contest, which began on Tuesday, invites kids aged 14 and under to submit names starting with the letter 'C'. Entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on April 24, 2024, and can be submitted online. Each child is allowed one entry, and classroom submissions must be made by a teacher. The RCMP Musical Ride and Heritage Branch will select up to nine winning names, with winners announced in May. Last year, the contest attracted over 1,600 entries, showcasing its widespread appeal. Winners will receive a horseshoe engraved with their foal's name, a photo of the horse, and a certificate signed by RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme. The RCMP has been breeding horses for more than 80 years, with the Pakenham facility being one of Canada's largest licensed Hanoverian breeders.
