Residents living along the Tiruchi-Thanjavur National Highway in Tamil Nadu have announced a boycott of the upcoming Assembly elections in protest against the government's failure to construct service lanes between Palpannai and Thavakudi. The Trichy-Palpannai-Thuvakudi Service Road Meetpu Kootamaippu, represented by its president S. Subramanian and general secretary K. Rajendran, claims that the service roads were to be built as part of the highway's four-laning project between 2006 and 2009, but political interference has delayed progress. Over the past 16 years, residents have faced numerous accidents and fatalities due to the absence of these lanes. Despite political parties making promises during election campaigns, they have not followed through once in power. The federation expressed regret over having to take such a drastic step, as they had hoped for full voter participation. The issue gained traction following protests by CPI cadre, with support from VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan. The district administration has since indicated that the land acquisition process for the service roads will be expedited.
