Atul Bora, the leader of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) party, is vying for a historic third consecutive victory in the Bokakhat constituency of Assam in the upcoming elections scheduled for April 9, 2026. Known for his role as a pragmatic bridge-builder between regional aspirations and national goals, Bora has garnered significant support from indigenous communities, including the Tea community, Gorkhas, and Mishing and Karbi tribes. His party, the AGP, is contesting 26 seats as part of the ruling alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), maintaining its previous footprint from 2021. The alliance was solidified after extensive negotiations over Upper Assam seats, ensuring a united front against the Congress-led opposition. Bora, who has revitalized Assam's agricultural sector, is trusted by voters to implement the Assam Accord and promote 'double-engine' growth. His previous success in the 2021 elections, where he won by over 45,000 votes, has established Bokakhat as his stronghold. To address local issues such as flood erosion and infrastructure, he is conducting 'Jana Ashirwad Yatras' alongside Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
