India's defence exports have achieved a historic milestone, reaching ₹38,424 crore (approximately $4.6 billion USD) in the financial year 2025-26, representing a significant 62.66% increase compared to the previous fiscal year. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted this achievement as a reflection of growing global trust in India's indigenous defence capabilities and advanced manufacturing. The increase of ₹14,802 crore over the previous year underscores the success of India's push towards self-reliance in defence. Notably, Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) accounted for 54.84% of total exports, while the private sector contributed 45.16%, showcasing a balanced collaborative ecosystem. The Ministry of Defence noted that this figure is about three times higher than five years ago and aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to position India among the top defence exporters globally. The number of defence exporters has also risen to 145, exporting equipment to more than 80 countries.
