The Naigaon police in Maharashtra, India, have filed a first information report (FIR) against Harish Bhanushali, a warehouse owner in Vasai East, for allegedly using forged documents to claim ₹3.56 crore (approximately $430,000 USD) in compensation from the National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd for his property acquired for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. Bhanushali is accused of misrepresenting his two-storey warehouse in Poman Industrial Estate as a three-storey structure, in collusion with local revenue officials. The fraud was uncovered following a financial dispute with his business partner, Padmashi Gajra, who reported the matter to the police. The FIR includes charges under sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. Police are currently searching for Bhanushali, who is reportedly absconding. The bullet train project spans 508 kilometers and will impact 21 villages in Vasai taluka and 14 villages in the Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation.
