Air India has announced a revision to its fuel surcharge structure for both domestic and international routes, effective April 8, 2026. For domestic flights, the airline will transition from a flat surcharge to a distance-based grid, with fees ranging from ₹299 for flights up to 500 km to ₹899 for distances over 2,000 km. This change aligns with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and the Ministry of Civil Aviation's decision to cap domestic Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) price hikes at 25%. On international routes, surcharges will vary significantly, with fees set at $24 for SAARC countries (excluding Bangladesh) and up to $280 for North America and Australia. The airline indicated that tickets issued prior to these changes will not incur the new surcharges unless customers request itinerary adjustments. Changes for flights to and from Bangladesh and Far East destinations will be announced later, pending regulatory approvals.
