As summer approaches, toy prices in India are set to rise significantly due to escalating raw material costs linked to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Shabbir Gabajiwala, president of The All India Toy Manufacturers Association (TAITMA), indicated that prices could increase by 10% to 40%, depending on the type of plastics used. The cost of plastics, particularly ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) and PP (polypropylene), has surged by 70%, from ₹100 per kg to ₹170 per kg over the past month. Although a recent ceasefire in the US-Iran conflict has slightly eased prices to ₹150 per kg, uncertainty remains regarding future price stability. Leading manufacturers like Funskool India have reported that input costs for plastics and packaging have risen by 40% to 60%, putting pressure on profit margins. Aditi Toys has also noted price increases of up to 30% in certain categories, driven by global crude oil volatility. Despite these challenges, consumer demand for quality toys appears resilient, with only a slight slowdown in the market.
