Despite ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, India has successfully increased its domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production to meet 60% of its total requirements. This shift is crucial as imported fuel supplies face pressure due to the Iran-related conflict, which has now lasted over 40 days. The Indian government is actively promoting the transition from LPG to piped natural gas (PNG), resulting in over 4.05 lakh new connections in the last five weeks alone. Officials confirmed that there is no shortage of LPG in the domestic market, with commercial supplies recovering to 70% of normal levels. Priority is given to essential services such as hospitals and food processing units, ensuring uninterrupted supply. To assist vulnerable communities, the government has doubled the distribution of 5 kg LPG cylinders and relaxed documentation requirements, selling nearly one lakh small cylinders daily. Overall, crude oil inventories remain stable, and refineries are functioning efficiently, as the government aims to reduce dependence on volatile imports.
