Samrat Choudhary, the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, is poised to become the state's Chief Minister, following his unanimous election as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) legislature party. This marks a historic moment as he will be the first leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to hold this position in Bihar. His political career has been marked by several controversies, including a notable incident in 1999 when he was appointed as a minister in the government led by Rabri Devi despite not being a member of the Bihar Assembly or the Legislative Council. This led to objections from then Leader of Opposition Sushil Kumar Modi and a subsequent dismissal order from Governor Suraj Bhan. Choudhary has also experienced multiple party shifts, starting with the Rashtriya Janata Dal, moving to the Janata Dal (United), and finally joining the BJP. His swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday at 11 am at Lok Bhavan in Patna, where he will formally assume his new role.
