Ramesh Sippy, renowned for directing the classic film 'Sholay', recalls his early fascination with cinema, sparked at the age of seven while visiting a film set. He describes how he left college in London to pursue his passion for filmmaking, eventually directing 'Andaz' in 1971, which marked the beginning of his successful career. As he prepares to continue the story of 'Buniyaad', the beloved series that aired in 1986, Sippy reflects on the impact of 'Sholay', which turned 50 last year and remains a cultural touchstone in Indian cinema. He acknowledges the film's varied interpretations by audiences, emphasizing that it belongs to the people. Sippy also shares insights into the challenges of filmmaking and the legacy he hopes to pass on through his family, including his son Rohan and grandson Zahan, both involved in the film industry. Currently, he is writing his memoir and his wife is working on a documentary about his life and career.
