The highly anticipated release of GTA VI is finally set to happen in November, and given that it is only around seven months away at the time of writing, it's remarkably how little we know about what it's actually going to be like. We have a decent handle on the map and how big it's going to be thanks to leaks, while we also know small tidbits about the main cast thanks to what we have seen in the game's two trailers so far. Outside of that, information is pretty thin on the ground, and that extends out to the technical specifications, where we are none the wiser as to exactly how good of a job Rockstar has done in optimizing their game. GTA 6's File Size Is A Big Deal Over on Reddit, one user asked the community to place their bets on exactly how big of an install GTA VI is going to be on our consoles, when all is said and done. Fans have an extremely broad range of expectations, with many relatively sanguine about the final size, because they're going to be playing it regardless. "No more than 300gb because that would require more than three discs. I think they want a real physical release, and I can't see more than three discs being used," one comment read. "Around 120-160. No less than Cyberpunk, no more than COD? GTA 5 is only that large due to having over a decade of online updates and DLCs. If you remove the ones not used in story mode with OpenIV (with the exception of the ones that break the game if removed), it goes down to around 65 GB. Not to mention it was initially developed for the PS3, where it's around 17 GB," another added. "GTA V got reduced to 90GB with Enhanced. So they seem to know what they’re doing to an extent, and I reckon it won’t be UE5-bloatware levels big, relative to the map size. My bet is that they do some wizardry and fit it into 140GB if not less," a third said. Rockstar's Games Are Usually Pretty Big Whatever it does end up being, there's no world in which Rockstar gets a game that's as ambitious as GTA VI in a package that's anything less than ~120GB. Red Dead Redemption 2 is probably our best reference point right now, and that's sitting at around 120GB as well. Realistically, it's more than likely going to be closer to 150GB, but let's be honest, we're all going to make room for it regardless. - Released - November 19, 2026 - ESRB - Rating Pending - Likely Mature 17+ - Engine - Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE) - Multiplayer - Online Multiplayer
