President Donald Trump has submitted a budget request for fiscal 2026 that seeks over $377 million for renovations to the White House residence, which is an 866% increase compared to the $39 million spent in fiscal 2025. The budget proposal, reported by Politico, also includes an additional $174 million projected for 2027. An Office of Management and Budget spokesperson clarified that the funding encompasses not only renovations to the residence but also security-related costs. One of the key projects in the proposal is a new White House ballroom, which is estimated to cost around $400 million and aims to enhance the complex's capacity for large events, replacing temporary structures currently used for state dinners. However, this ambitious plan has encountered legal hurdles, including a recent lawsuit from the National Trust for Historic Preservation of the United States, which has blocked the project.
