Calcutta University has decided to postpone its undergraduate first semester examinations that were set to occur after April 13, 2023, due to the assembly elections in West Bengal, India. Many affiliated colleges are occupied for polling, which restricts access to examination venues. Vice-Chancellor Asutosh Ghosh emphasized the need to ensure students can access their exam locations, stating that the decision was made after careful consideration of the logistical difficulties posed by the elections. A meeting with principals from approximately 40 colleges in Hooghly, Howrah, South 24 Parganas, and Kolkata revealed concerns regarding the ability to conduct exams effectively during this period. While exams before April 13 can continue, the situation is expected to worsen after this date when exams shift to away centers, particularly those under Election Commission control. Despite the postponement, Ghosh reassured that other examinations, especially for sixth-semester students, would not be impacted.
