Central armed police forces (CAPF) personnel deployed for election duty in West Bengal have expressed serious concerns regarding poor living conditions at various camps. Reports indicate issues such as non-functional toilets, inadequate bedding, and a lack of water supply, particularly in regions like Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, and Murshidabad. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has responded by invoking emergency provisions under the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) to expedite arrangements for basic amenities. A senior official confirmed that multiple complaints have been received from district election officers, prompting immediate orders for portable toilets and other essential services. The situation has raised security concerns, as inadequate facilities could jeopardize the safety of personnel and their equipment. With around 2,400 CAPF companies already deployed and an additional 150 companies being sent, the ECI is taking steps to ensure security during the upcoming polling phases on April 23 and April 29.
