The Chinese Film Festival is set to return to Kolkata, West Bengal, India, after a ten-year hiatus, starting on April 17, 2023. Organized by the Chinese Consulate, the festival will showcase seven films across various genres at Nandan Theatre, allowing audiences to experience contemporary Chinese cinema. Consul General Xu Wei highlighted the collaborative efforts that made this revival possible, noting that the last festival occurred in 2016. The screenings will be free of charge, with the opening ceremony on the first day followed by additional films over the next two days. In conjunction with the festival, the Consulate will also celebrate International Chinese Language Day, featuring activities led by local schools, including calligraphy and lantern-making, to engage students with Chinese culture. This initiative aims to foster cultural exchange and strengthen ties between India and China.
