In a significant operation, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Pune, Maharashtra, India, conducted a raid on Thursday that resulted in the seizure of ₹2,23,196 (approximately $2,700 USD) worth of adulterated mango pulp. The raid targeted a facility in the Urse region of Maval, operated by Mohammad Ekramul (also known as Akram Gulam). Authorities discovered that the facility was producing mango pulp using unauthorized colors and adulterants. A total of 3,282.9 kilograms of adulterated mango pulp, raw mango fruit, and related materials were seized and subsequently destroyed due to their perishable nature. The investigation further traced the adulterated products to Avishkar Enterprises in Rakshewadi, Taluka Khed, where an additional 558 kilograms of mango pulp worth ₹61,380 was also confiscated. The operation was led by senior FDA officials, including Assistant Commissioner N. R. Sarkate and Commissioner Shridhar Dube Patil. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspected food adulteration to the FDA using the toll-free number 1800222365. Under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, operating without a valid license can result in penalties of up to ₹10 lakh (approximately $12,000 USD).
