S.R. Mahesh (former Minister and leader of the Janata Dal (Secular) party) has accused the Karnataka government of cheating farmers at ragi procurement centers in Mysuru district. He alleged that farmers are being subjected to excessive weight deductions, losing ₹200 for every quintal of ragi due to personnel collecting an additional 4 kgs under the guise of bag weight. Furthermore, farmers are charged ₹52 per quintal for loading bags onto trucks, despite the government paying a contractor ₹32 per quintal for this service. Since the procurement began, about 60,000 quintals of ragi have been collected from K.R. Nagar taluk, with an estimated 1.5 lakh quintals expected in the coming months. Mahesh criticized the negligence of officials from the Department of Food and Civil Supplies and urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to address the issue. He warned of potential protests if the exploitation of farmers continues without resolution.
