India's major ports achieved a significant milestone by handling 915.17 million tonnes (MT) of cargo in the fiscal year 2025-26, surpassing the annual target of 904 MT and demonstrating a 7.06% increase compared to the previous year. The Deendayal Port Authority topped the list with 160.11 MT of cargo, followed closely by Paradip Port Authority with 156.45 MT and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) at 102.01 MT. Notably, Mormugao Port Authority led in growth, recording a 15.91% increase, while Kolkata Dock System and JNPA followed with growth rates of 14.28% and 10.74%, respectively. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways credited this remarkable performance to various factors including infrastructure upgrades, enhanced hinterland connectivity, digital initiatives, and improved turnaround times. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal emphasized that this achievement reflects the government's commitment to strengthening maritime infrastructure and enhancing logistics efficiency, setting the stage for increased trade growth in India.
