The City Industrial and Development Corporation (Cidco) has launched an amnesty scheme to regularize unauthorized multi-dwelling units in Navi Mumbai, following the Maharashtra government's decision to regularize constructions existing as of January 1, 2011. Under this scheme, multi-dwelling units built with the necessary permissions will be considered regularized without any fees. However, those constructed without prior approval will incur a one-time penalty fee of 25% of the reserve price for residential bungalows and 150% for commercial plots. This resolution, passed on March 23, aims to provide legal clarity to homeowners and facilitate redevelopment. The decision has been welcomed by residents and real estate developers, who believe it will accelerate urban growth and redevelopment opportunities. Cidco's initiative encourages the amalgamation of plots for better planning and recognizes all allotments as residential, allowing for transfers and mortgages under existing policies. The board has authorized immediate implementation of this decision.
